The Arc de Triomphe: Commissioned by Napoleon I in 1806, and completed in 1830, after a prolonged cessation of its construction. Beautiful view of the Champs Elysées and Paris from its summit (price €16, free for under 26s)

Luxury boutiques : all along the avenue: Dior, Louis Vuitton, Chanel… and Avenue Montaigne: Prada, Versace, Louis Vuitton, Yves St Laurent…

Famous restaurants: Fouquet’s…

The Grand Palais (at the bottom of the Champs Elysées) places of permanent and temporary exhibitions
